My Statement

Union City is facing a nearly $3 million annual deficit, rising crime, higher taxation, deteriorating

infrastructures and alarming levels of drug and alcohol use by students under 18. Union City

residents are fed up! Our city should not be a gateway for drugs, nor should it be doomed to

suffer the loss of valued local business opportunities with much needed high-paying jobs.

For the past year, I have worked successfully with other Union City residents to achieve the

removal of hazardous encampments, and we have successfully blocked at least two new retail

cannabis outlets from opening in residential areas near homes and schools (which would have

offered easy access to underage students). I am not opposed to adults responsibly using

cannabis - it is the easy access and potential illegal sales to underage students and the crimes

cannabis stores attract that I oppose.

As an immigrant from Taiwan, a graduate of University of California Davis, a spouse of 30 years

to my first love, and a happy mother of two wonderful sons, I am grateful for the opportunities

this country has given me to prosper. This is why I am fighting for the same opportunities for our

children to flourish and thrive.

In addition to my career in real estate investing, I thrived in a decade-long successful career in

the high-tech sector which demonstrates my ability to invest, lead and manage complex

operations effectively. As Director of Sales and Marketing and later Director of Operations, I

worked with hundreds of tech companies from start-ups to Fortune 500 firms. I have

successfully generated revenue, achieved sales goals and made my company profitable. My

leadership skill with caring and communication abilities, (fluent in English, Mandarin and

Taiwanese) will bring a much needed fresh and open servitude to the City Council, focusing on

safety, economic growth, fiscal responsibility, and most importantly, assuring that residents’

voices will be heard regardless of ethnicities, religious backgrounds or preferences.

I am Wendy Huang, a resident of Union City since 1998, running as the only Asian City

Councilwoman in Union City, with an aim to unite with what we have in common, and not be

divided by our differences. With renewed leadership, Union City will thrive with its diverse
